$300 for the "Inner Light" Flute?

Keywords: none

According to an article that Carl sent me today, Christie's will be auctioning off Star Trek props, uniforms, etc. in October. It's the 40th anniversary of Trek, and I guess they don't need these things any more now that the powers to be have more or less destroyed the once-great franchise with their poor writing.

The article mentions that there is the possibility that the amount that they expect for items to fetch may be underestimated because of the fanaticism of the fan base. Well, if they expect for the flute from TNG's "Inner Light" (yes, that flute) to fetch just $300, I think they are indeed underestimating, wouldn't you agree?

I wonder how much they expect combadges to fetch? If I were going to be anywhere near Christie's, I might check it out.

Do you know whether the origins of the Federation "swoosh" logo are ever described in the show?

Good question. If they're decently priced...

You mean the pointy arrow-like swoosh seen on the combadges? My understanding was that in the TOS days, each ship had a patch with a different design, and it just so happened that Kirk's ship had that design. And since that ship became famous, they adopted that ship's patch design throughout the fleet. But I could be totally off-base here, esp. since I've seen a small handful of TOS episodes and there are episodes in every series (even DS9) that I still haven't seen yet, so my knowledge is far from complete.

That is indeed what I meant. My TOS knowledge is woefully incomplete. In the name of Trekdom, I should probably do something about that...
